Munich to Venice Dolomites Challenge 2017

Munich to Venice Dolomites Challenge 2017

Published on Wednesday 2nd November 2016

Here it is, another epic, the CAC plan for the 2017 Munich to Venice, Dolomites individual challenge.

3 Countries, 7 days mixed terrain, cycle paths and lakes in Germany, the Austrian Tyrol, The Dolomites in Italy and finishing by the sea in Venice.

We plan to depart on Friday 30th June flying Heathrow to Munich, stay near the airport and build  bikes ready for Saturday pedal off through the city of Munich and then picking up the Munchen Venezia cycle path to our first night at Lake Achensee.

On day 2 we continue southwards again following the MV route to Brenner.

On day  3 we leave Austria into Italy and the Dolomites climbing  to our overnight in Cortina where we will stay for three nights to explore the Dolomites. The loop ride on day 4 will see us over 2000 m the Passo Giau at 2286m and the Passo Fazalrego at over 2000m on roads commonly featured in the Giro  Italia.

A further loop on day 5 will include the Tres Cimes Lavadero where the Giro is often won or loss, the Tre Croci, the Furkelpass and lunch on Lake Misurina. The loop rides will be challenging but  tick  the Giau and the Lavadero off your bucket list.

Leaving Cortina we drop from 1600 m to sea level over 186 km to Treviso on day 6, possibly at the fastest average speed you will ever achieve for this distance!

Our final leisurely day takes us on a flat route 80 km to the coast and stay  just outside Venice, from  which you might like to visit before you fly home on Saturday.

In all 560 miles and some considerable accumulated ascent.

As usual the focus will be on enjoying the ride, (with no prizes, but likely charity fines for being first), good company, and sense of humour and a can do attitude are more important than having the best strava time up your local hillock.

We are finalising details,  and will be doing the detailed recce later in November, but aim to keep costs at our normal level (around £750) although Brexit may scupper that plan, so suggest you anticipate a little more this year plus flights.

BA  and others have several flights a day from Heathrow to Munich and from Venice to Heathrow at less than £100 each way.

The Rapha Dolomites alternative is at £2900 plus flights!!

As usual hotels, most dinners, breakfasts, final night party, the fabulous Marshall support and bike transport to and from the UK are included.

It is for charity, we are not a holiday company, so we will require a guaranteed commitment of at least £300 which you can raise or pay yourself as a sportive style entry, but would like everybody to aim for £1000.

We expect relatively high demand this year, so please respond confirming you would like to go ASAP.

Numbers will be limited, so please do not book flights until you have an email confirming your place.
